A champion fighter and extraordinarily eloquent, in a world of mundanity – Birmingham’s Matt Windle is a breath of fresh air.
A former poet laureate, the 32-year-old is also the Commonwealth Light Flyweight Champion after a brilliant display against South Africa’s Siphelele Myeza in October, when the Brummie detonated a huge right hand on the visitor’s chin to end matters in round 11.
With a couple of contentious defeats marring his now 7-4-1 (1) record, the ‘Punching Poet’ will aim to capitalise on his recent success by defending his hard-won crown on home turf in 2023 and – who knows – maybe move to within touching distance of a world title shot.
Here, the ‘MatMan’ chats about that win over Myeza, plans for the future … and knocks-out a cracking Christmas poem!
