Charlie Schofield’s win over Mickey Ellison on June 4 was a triple victory for the Ashton under Lyne fighter after he reversed the only defeat on his record, picked up the English Super Middleweight Title, and earned himself a Fight Academy contract.
In a barnstormer live on Fightzone, Schofield had too much for his Lancashire rival, etching out a unanimous 10-round points victory and cancelling out Ellison’s previous 2019 win. This time around, Charlie came out like a train in the first three rounds, bloodying Mickey’s face and establishing an unassailable lead.
Now sitting pretty at 16-1 (1), ‘Chaz’ will enjoy a well-earned break before resuming his career on ground-breaking new boxing channel, Fightzone. Highly-rated Lennox Clarke, from Halesowen, is currently ruling the British roost at Super Middleweight and could be a target for Schofield, with the 27-year-old excited about the opportunities his new Fight Academy deal offers.
“Respect to Mickey, we’ve had two top fights, shared 20 rounds together. I thought I just did enough in the first fight, but that’s boxing. So in this one, in the corner before the first bell I thought ‘I’m having this’! I’m buzzing to have righted that wrong and to have come back after so long out with a performance like that, I’m really happy.
“I’m also really chuffed to be signing with Fight Academy, and to see what doors will open. Lennox [Clarke] is the British champion at the moment, I’ll get back in the gym and have a chat with Kevin [Maree], Dennis [Hobson] and Rob [Rimmer] and we’ll decide the best route to go down, and see what’s available. I’ll get ready for whoever they put in front of me next.
“Headlining on Fightzone was absolutely brilliant. It was an unbelievable venue, and what a show! The feedback I’ve had from my supporters, everything about it, was just fantastic. Fightzone is great for everybody involved and I can’t wait to fight on there again.”
